Andrea Pizzo

Short bio

Andrea Pizzo

Andrea Pizzo was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, in an Italian American family where the kitchen was the heart of the home. Her great-grandparents and grandparents came from Sicily and Naples, and they brought their recipes, their traditions and their faith with them.

She grew up on Sunday mornings that smelled like sauce, Saturday trips to the pork store with her father, and a table that never had just one dish on it. She is a registered nurse. Her first cookbook, I'm Italian! I'm Punching Myself in the Face, collects 50 of those recipes with the photographs and the stories that go with them, and she is at work on a second book of Italian Christmas cookies.

How she works with people

The recipes almost went with her grandmother

Nothing was written down. Everything was "come over and watch." A whole family cuisine survived on memory until she sat down and recorded it.

A Brooklyn Italian childhood, plainly told

The pork store on Saturday, the salumeria, bakery trays carried into family dinners, and a Sunday that started with sauce before church.

Cooking as a way of keeping people

Great-grandma Clara, grandpa Domiano, her mother Josephine. Each recipe is attached to a person, which is why she can still remember them.

She is not a chef

No restaurant, no training, no television. A home cook with four generations behind her, which is exactly why the recipes work in a home kitchen.

Partnerships

How she works with brands

She is selective on purpose. An audience that trusts a home cook stops trusting her the first time she sells something she does not use.

What she will do
Products she already cooks with. Recipe development, demos, and honest on-camera use.
What she will not do
Anything she has not cooked with. Diet claims. Products she would not put on her own table.
Disclosure
Every paid placement is labelled, on the site and on social.
Approval
She reviews any copy or footage that carries her name before it runs.
