Prosciutto Bread

Every Easter, this was one of the first recipes my mom made. Before the Easter baskets, before the family gathered around the table, and before the feast began, there was always the smell of this beautiful bread baking in the oven. We would wake up early, get dressed in our Sunday best, and head to church on Easter morning. When we came home, the kitchen was filled with the warm aroma of fresh bread, cured meats, and melted provolone.

I can still remember standing beside my mom in the kitchen, watching her gently roll out the dough and carefully layer each ingredient with love. She would twist it into its beautiful wreath shape, brush it with egg wash until it shined, and slide it into the oven. As it baked, the crust turned perfectly golden and crisp, while the inside stayed soft, warm, and packed with all those incredible Italian flavors.

The hardest part was waiting. We’d gather around the kitchen, peeking through the oven door, counting down the minutes until it was ready. My dad would always try to sneak the first slice, and my mom would laugh, telling him to wait just a little longer.

Every bite reminds me of those Easter mornings, our faith, our family, and the traditions that have been passed down through generations. These are the moments that stay with you forever. The laughter, the love, the smell of homemade bread filling the house, and knowing that everyone you loved would soon be gathered around the table.

To me, this isn’t just Prosciutto Bread. It’s Easter morning, it’s family, it’s love, and it’s one of the greatest gifts my mother ever passed down to me. Every time I make it now, I feel like she’s right beside me in the kitchen, carrying on a tradition that I will proudly pass on to my children, grandchildren, and generations to come.
