Sausage & Peppers

There’s certain meals that don’t just feed people… they bring the whole family through the door. This was one of those meals in our house. The minute the peppers and onions hit the pan and the sausage started browning, everybody somehow knew where to be. Cousins piled in, aunts and uncles laughing loud, kids running around, music playing somewhere in the background, and my dad walking in carrying those big twisted Italian seeded breads like he was delivering gold.
And listen… that bread wasn’t optional.
You NEEDED that bread for dunking in the juice at the bottom of the pan. That juice was sacred. You’d make a sandwich, take a bite, then sop up every last drop with the bread until the plate looked clean enough to put back in the cabinet. One bite of this sawsage and PEPPAHS and I promise you… you’re gonna punch ya face!!!!
This wasn’t fancy food. This was family food. The kind that filled the kitchen with steam on the windows and everybody yelling over each other trying to grab another piece of sausage before it disappeared.
And somehow… it always tasted even better the next day.
